They produce nothing, but make a lot of money for it.
They have crafted a system using language that no one can understand except them. So if you need to do anything legal, you need to hire a lawyer so you understand what another lawyer did.
Only lawyers can fight lawyers.

There are good lawyers and bad lawyers, but they all look the same so it's hard to tell what they are by looking. They have different specialities, so you may need more than one lawyer to get any given thing done.

Lawyers en masse are thus smarter than doctors. Everyone can see the need for doctors. The need for lawyers sneaks up on a society and then crushes it under the weight of them.
Meanwhile, peaches are in season. I don't like eating the furry skins, so I score them with a sharp knife and peel it off in quarters that never lie flat. As long as the peach is ripe enough this is intensely satisfying.
